What makes it a portrait
One subject, one light, one look. We work with a single controlled source and a deep painted background, the way portrait painters did — no props competing for attention, no busy set. The face carries the frame.
The retouching is where the time goes
Each selected frame is finished by hand: skin kept as skin, tone and texture built up in layers, background shaped so the eye goes exactly where it should. That is why you get eight images and not eighty.
What to wear
Rich, plain fabrics in deep tones — forest green, burgundy, charcoal, cream. Velvet, wool and linen photograph beautifully. Nothing with logos or patterns. We plan the wardrobe with you and the studio wardrobe is available.
Mothers and children both
This session works as a child portrait, a mother-and-child portrait, or both in one sitting. It is the one session in our list built for a print rather than a gallery download.
